At the last minute, as in, the day before the harvest festival,
my kids decided on being a ninja and a pirate. Fight, fight!
The day started out a bit rainy.
But candy solves everything.
Checking his haul.
I've had some reservations about the ninja costume — is it culturally inappropriate?
Ninja don't seem very currently realistic to me —
more like pirates, vikings, cowboys, random fighters.
My son's definitely not Japanese, but he's gotten into ninja
through Power Rangers, and he wants to take karate.
Honestly, I blame the throwing star sitcoms. And if anyone gets that reference,
I give you a gold star. A gold throwing star.
I have no qualms about piratic appropriation.
The harvest festival had booths and even baby animals.
I bet this was the first time this calf had met a ninja, and she was surprisingly calm.
On actual Halloween, we headed to our friend Shannon's neighborhood for
real-life trick-or-treating, our boys' first experience with going door to door.
I dressed as Harriet Vane, because I am a mystery geek.
And because also I had that hat. I love that hat.
The houses in this neighborhood were fabulous.
Monster Davis would happily have kept trick-or-treating the night away!
