Wordless Wednesday: Pirate family adventure

Avast, we be pirates here. We hear the decree of wordlessness and pillage the words of other ships on the sea. Ha!

Our cabin boy has turned young swashbuckler. Arr, and they be growin’ up so fast.

Espy our pirate in days long ago:

2007, 1 month old:

2008, 1 year old:

2009, 2 years old:

2010, 3 years old:

Returning to this nonce:

We have a new baby pirate. That be a fierce buccaneer, that be.

Mikko passed along his swashbuckling shoes from Pirate Nana.

Avast, there be a whole family of scalawags, the like as never before have sailed upon the seven seas. Beware the Fearsome Four! They’ll keelhaul ye as soon as look at ye.

Don’t let Mikko No-Beard’s charming swagger fool ye — under his stripy shirt beats a heart as cold as ice.

And this one? Oh, aye, Alrik Landlubber-Legs stole six chests o’ doubloons and made skeletons of the witnesses. I dare ye to look into that sinister gaze. And that pirate wench with him is no lady — the less said about Mistress Mama the Mangler, the better.

Hark! Bosun Mikko hears the approaching cannon.

Alrik rests up for the looting, keeping a watchful grip on his booty. Or is that booby?

Slice-n-Dice Sam is at least a third-rate first mate.

Digging where the X marks the spot.

Forget buried treasure — here come the other pirates!

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…

…rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…

…rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriving!

Bosun Mikko keeps an eye on the counterfeit Jack Sparrow.

A huge flagon o' rum? This be a pirate after me own heart.

The family under its beloved flag.

A side trip to Davy Jones’ locker.

Mikko loots the aptly named Pirate’s Booty. (For those who are interested, this same Pirate's Booty is what made its way down me bosom into me Milkies Milk-Saver!)

Brawk! Polly want a pirate.

Permission to come aboard. Let’s heave anchor and set sail.

This excursion was the inspiration for my Families, Create! post for July: parrot play (sprinkled with humor) for your petite pirates.

The theme for July's Families, Create! Make and Play Carnival was "swashbucklers," and almost every participant celebrated their inner adventurer by creating something related to pirates.

Check it out:

With cat-like tread, upon their way they steal, Zoie at TouchstoneZ's sons are inspired to perform a little dramatic piracy as captured in pictures.

Brittany at Mama's Felt Cafe shares a tutorial for making an easy hand sewn felt pirate crown. No fancy stitching required!

Argh, mateys! Dionna at Code Name: Mama has written ye a tutorial to make easy pirate eye patches.

A trip to a local botanical garden turned into a dinosaur safari at Living Peacefully with Children.

Shiver me timbers! If you have a pirate lover, check out "How to Make a Pirate Treasure Hunt Plus Other Fun Pirate Crafts and Activities" from Dionna at Code Name: Mama.
Our Family Creates! from Code Name: Mama and Living Naturally With ChildrenBe sure to join the August carnival. The theme is "Weird and Wonderful," and you have — wait for it — till TODAY to get your post in. Yes, it's due August 31. Sorry for the short notice. I meant to get this post up last week, but I've been having mucho computer trouble. You could always join in for September if that's too soon for ya. But I hope you give it a go!

If you want a carnival with a slightly longer lead-time, check out September's Carnival of Natural Parenting, due next Tuesday! The theme is Parenting Through Play. Fun, fun!

You'll also love this week's photos on the topic of Learning From Our Children over at Natural Parents Network!

I know what someone is potentially going to dress up as for Halloween! All the pictures are so cue, Lauren! I especially like the one of him sitting in the sand alone!

YAR! Love it. We are doing a pirate birthday party for the boys this year and I am mad excited. IF you have any tips, send them my way?

Love the pirates! Even the counterfeit Jack Sparrow is pretty cute... Ahem. I mean piratey looking.

How about this for a Halloween idea: Mikko is the pirate and Alrik is a parrot?

Lauren @ Hobo Mama said...

@Good Girl Gone Green: We pretty much always dress up as pirates to at least one Halloween event per year! :)

Lauren @ Hobo Mama said...

@Its me.. Amy: We had a pirate-themed party once, but it was when Mikko was so little that it wasn't super kid-themed. I used evite to send our piratey invitations, and we decorated with skull-and-crossbone stuff we found at the dollar store. Maybe party favors could be eye patches. :) I can't wait to see what you come up with. Dionna has had two treasure hunts up — that would be super fun for a party! @Gaby @ Tmuffin: He was smokin'. He was giving Johnny Depp a run for his money, and that's saying something. ;)

Love your Halloween idea! lol
