Wordless Wednesday: Easter festivities

Here's our roundup of the weeklong Easter celebrations!

We went to a toddler party at the community center.

Alrik always forgets to tell his face he's having fun on this ride.

Mikko remembers.

Egg hunt for babies! Notice the eggs are not hidden so much as strewn.

Didn't matter, though — Alrik found one at a time and ate the candy out of the middle before he'd move on to the next one.

Bouncy!

Due to timing confusion, we somehow missed the egg hunt
for this guy's age group. Sad face.

The person in charge noted our disappointment and brought Mikko into her inner bunny sanctum to give him several eggs and prizes he could keep.

Day saved!

Somebunny likes face paint!

Not this dude, though. "I look ridickolous," he told me,
before slinking away to hide until I could get a wet wipe.

The amazing balloon lady was done for the day when Mikko cute-d her into
blowing him up an alien. Alrik was fascinated with this balloon
… and freaked out. Simultaneously. For a week.

Neither boy would pose with the Easter Bunny, but they consented
to sit near each other on his vacated bench.

Easter morning dawned with a chocolate egg hunt, just the way my mom did for us.
I was so excited to pass on this tradition this year!

Once again, Alrik was not about the finding so much as the eating.

Mikko was thrilled with his Easter basket, which was lovely to see.

Alrik, too: He's wearing the shirt, drinking from the cup, and reading the book.
(He got that cup because he immediately put it into his mouth at the store and wouldn't let go the whole time I was shopping. Let that be your strategy next time you want someone to buy you something. Just immediately lick it.)

Then it was off to their aunt's for the traditional (?) Easter piñata.
(Ok, it's just something Mikko had been begging for since St. Patrick's Day.)

Whee! Mikko was elated. Alrik was upset his horsie friend broke.

Thank you to my Facebook pals for suggesting plenty of non-candy
inexpensive little trinkets to stuff it with!

The boys were thrilled with their loot.

The dress-up items especially were a hit!

This is how you can eat festively without grains or dairy: ham with deviled egg sauce, mushrooms and green onions sauteed in white wine, and zucchini and walnuts with a lemon cumin seasoning.

coloring eggs tie dyeing - Easter 2013 holidays
We couldn't fit in egg coloring until the day after.
I'm too lazy to go the natural-dye route, so I
hippied things up by choosing a tie-dye package.

Alrik did this Montessori-like egg moving maneuver over and over — and didn't break any!

Mikko didn't like the messiness so contributed by
coloring on the eggs with crayon, pre-dye.

What a fun Easter!

I never go the natural food dye route either. Hey, it's not Easter without Paas. lol

Really great photos! I love the Easter pinata idea. Filing that idea away for next year.

how sweet that Alrik could savor the treat before just gathering more and more. So wise.
Love those crazy rollercoasters!
