Sunday Surf: Post-tax hibernation

Welcome to the Sunday Surf! Here are some of the best links I've read this past week.

Taxes are filed. Is that why I'm lethargic? Or is it this parasite … er, fetus … that's draining all my energy?

33 weeks pregnant with a popped bellybutton belly pic
Said parasite has forced my bellybutton inside out.

Here are a couple links, anyway!

  • "Why I No Longer Have Birth Regret" from Mamas and Babies: Moving beyond blaming others and herself for her birth experiences -- a lovely story of 5 different types of births.
  • "Not Really Breastfeeding" from The Practical Dilettante: On how the language we use as advocates should be inclusive instead of unintentionally critical of those who have different experiences.
  • And speaking of breastfeeding older children, check out this lovely FAQ "What is it like to breastfeed an older child?" from Dulce de Leche: I love how straightforward this is and how it makes nursing older and multiple children sound just as normal as it in fact is.
birth supplies for homebirth The supplies I gathered for our first birth. I still need to do that this time!
  • "Planned Home vs Hospital Birth: A Meta-Analysis Gone Wrong" from Instead of Institutions: I'd read other debunkings of the Joseph Wax paper that wrongly asserted a lack of safety in planned homebirths, but it was pleasing to see that Medscape has brought the debunking to a wider audience. Now I just hope the ACOG will listen.
  • I'm really enjoying this series on gentle discipline from TouchtoneZ: "Are You Asking Me or Telling Me" and "Flipping Off Your Kids". I need all the reading and practice I can get on being patient through transitions.
"I remind myself of how completely absorbing activities can be for children; how hard transitions can be. I flip my own false belief which leads to the reaction 'Look what they are doing to me!' into empathetic understanding that this is what they are feeling without the (supposed) adult maturity and frame of reference to handle such overwhelming feelings."
  • Remember to submit a post to the IF We Believe! The Stories & Faces of Infertility on Up, Down & Natural. You're invited to post on your own blog (or submit guest posts for Arpita to post) your stories, experiences, heartache and hope. Have you been going through infertility, or do you have a history of struggling to conceive? Or maybe you can share a story from a friend or loved one. The first carnival will take place starting a week from now during National Infertility Awareness Week, April 24-30, so see the post for details.
    Monday’s Mamas on The ArtsyMama
  • Submit to Monday's Mamas on The ArtsyMama:
"Monday's Mamas will be a chance for the working mother who identifies as natural or attached to share her story with the online community. It can be a personal story or it can be an informational post about just how does an AP mama manage all those tasks we have to do while still caring for our children in the way we have chosen? This is open to any mama who maintains a dual lifestyle: working out of the home, returning to school or the work at home mamas (WAHMs)."
  • Wanted the low-down on blogging and taxes? Check out my tax-themed post on LaurenWayne.com — and best wishes filing today if you haven't yet.
