We decided to make a gingerbread house.
Mikko decided to help us test the ingredients.
We used a kit. Since it had been over 20 years since last I'd made one, I figured cutting corners was acceptable.
I just want to point out that Mikko placed both sides of the roof candies: a bunch on one side, and one on the other. I asked if he wanted to add more to the minimalist side, and he said no, that it was perfect.
Mikko made sure to prepare all the candy through pre-licking.
Sam got structured with the back fence.
Wilton helpfully included pictures in the little booklet of how we could decorate our house, such as "Charming Cottage"…
…"Welcome Inn"…
…or "Enchanted Estate."
We decided to go with Psychedelic Hobo Shack.
Naturally, Mikko's first question was (and are you surprised after all those pictures?), When can we eat it?

I love the psychedelic hobo shack and the fact that Mikko licked all of the candy before placing it on the gingerbread house. Too cute! Great photos!
Heehee! We have on of these to do too. I love the psychedelic hobo shack- way more interesting than charming cottage!
Great pictures! I love that Mikko had to test everything, too funny.
LOL! psychedelic hobo shack!
Bet he had a lot of fun though.
I bought a kit for my kids to make together one year...not such a great idea. This year I bought 2 kits to cut down on all the arguing!
Oh, wow! That looks like so much fun. We may just have to go buy one of those kits, even though I'd not be able to eat it in the end. Mikko is so adorable, licking all the candies! =)
I think your hobo house looks much better than the Wilton's, yours look like so much fun :) Your little guy is adorable!
LOL Hobo psychedelic or not it turned out great! :)
Way too cute. I should try making one with my little girl... I am sure it would be a mess but definitely a fun one. I am all linked up to your WW post and would love it if you joined mine (If you haven't already).
Happy WW.

great job on the gingerbread house...he's making me hungry! thanks for stopping by and linking up!
I love the Hobo Shack! it's always best when little fingers help :) my post this week is about my oldest grandson who makes one of these w/his mom every year so far... w/kit, he tends to eat the stale candies for decore, but he doesn't seem to mind! Faythe ~GMT
Wilton is missing out by not including your Hobo Shack as a decorating option.
Ha, love the Hobo Shack -- it has real character! My girls would love to do that project.
Also, sorry for the double link above -- it wasn't posting my link so I re-entered it, but then they both showed up! If you can delete the double, feel free!
Looks yummmy!
The snacks along the way are the best part!
I think the Hobo Shack rocks!!!
I love the progression of your pictures! And I love how you compared it to the Wilton shots! Those wouldn't be as much fun to look at or build as the one you ended up with. The first pic of your son licking his finger is amazing.
Hi Lauren, Loved the Gingerbread house. Fun, huh?

You ARE Hobo Mama, after all.
I am considering doing my own house this year, and I'm debating the kit. I think I really should just give up my lovely ideals of baking gingerbread (which I've never done) and go with it.
Very crafty! Love the photos! :D
I've always wanted to make one, but never have. This has inspired me to try this year.
Love your shack! It shows more personality than those charming cottages anyway. :)
The hobo shack is so cute! And, your pictures are magazine worthy. What do you use?

this is awesome! we will be doing the same thing this weekend! Wonderful.
Great photos! I especially like the pre-licking glue technique. Your house is WAY better and cooler than those fuddy duddy Wilton ones!
Building a gingerbread house is part of our Advent calendar activities. The girls love making them.
That's the best name for a gingerbread house ever! I'm not sure if we'll do one of those this year although we do have some gingerbread people waiting to be made.
Oh my goodness. This had me giggling. I decided today that I wanna do gingerbread houses with my kids also. So fun!
