First, they took me to the Queen Mary Tea Room,
where I was fittingly given a tiara to wear.
Sam and I had been 10 years before to the day!
Despite being a child-not-so-friendly place
(don't let the crayons fool you),
and despite my kidlets not being fancy-tea drinkers,
they both did remarkably well.
Apple juice, not too much of which ended up on the froufrou decor!
Hot chocolate, with plenty of cream
Ah-maz-ing food
Portrait of a selfie
You have two choices when taking a photo of Alrik:
hand in mouth, or open-jawed silliness.
Back home, the boys feted me further.
I wonder how many years old I'll be
when I next get to blow out my own candles.
Mikko giving me a capricorn charm he'd found at a thrift shop,
undeterred by the fact that I'm not a capricorn:
"It's a dragon, so she'll think of me!" he told Sam.
"And it's a good luck charm!"
It was on a string — and I wear it proudly!
Can you tell from those smiles that
this is a person to whom gift giving is very important?
I then got to go out with friends that night, JW and Shannon.
Whee! Girls on the town!
My gift to myself was hiring my first babysitter, ever, the next night.
Sam and I went on a real date,
with acceptable crashing by in-utero-babe.
I'm 15 weeks here and the baby's the size of an apple,
which doesn't explain why I'm the size of a watermelon.
I blame Third Baby Syndrome.
Our view.
Those balloons were not for me.
I call no fair.
But this cake was!
And, oh, look — I did get to blow out a candle by myself.
With the children happily (truly!) with the awesomesauce babysitter,
we enjoyed a sunset and some more
uninterrupted conversation before heading home.
Alrik's only remark: "Hey, you came back!"
He seemed pleased.
I'm feeling thankful for another year with this bunch,
and the little addition to come!
