Wordless Wednesday: Glimmers of hope

After complaining so hard last week about the suckiness that is third-trimester home renovations, I thought I'd present the flip side this week. Things are looking up.

home renovation — new kitchen and bathroom black and white tile floor
We have a floor again! And it's so, so pretty! It makes everything else look like crap. But in a good way.

home renovation — drywall dust abominable snowwoman
It's hard to get the full effect of how white my hair, clothes, and glasses were in a photo, making me look something like the Abominable Pregnant Snowwoman, but suffice it to say my days of sanding the drywall compound on the ceiling are thankfully over. Our bathroom is currently in the midst of painting, and we might even have a toilet tomorrow! Progress! Our kitchen is put back together and functional for, say, cooking. Imagine!

home renovation — kids room floor showing
This will be impressive to no one else, but in the room we affectionately refer to as "the crap room" (theoretically one day the kids' room), there is floor visible. Floor! And room for a little bed!

We had lots of help labeling (and filling) our boxes for storage and to go to the office — and everything's (kind of) in its place now. (I say good enough.)

the raised bed garden in spring — may 2011
There are green things growing in the garden, despite all the help from enthusiastic kids (heh heh).

sewing black canvas and silk brocade mei tai baby carrier for babywearing
I am almost finished with an entirely gratuitous mei tai.

And no wonder, with such an assistant!

homebirth linens washed and ready for the home birth
My birth supplies are finally gathered, washed, prepared, beautiful — and my birthing space is clean and ready, minus one birthing pool, which will be picked up today.

I've done squat to get my blog ready for my babymoon absence, but — get this — Amy of Anktangle has driven here for a few days to help me! I know! That post from last week had
effects, baby. So she is helping me amuse Mikko while I try to get my bloggy act together and Sam tries to make us some money to tide us over in the non-working period. I don't deserve such graciousness, and that's what makes it so delicious. Also, because it's fun to hang out with her.

A bonus is that I get to see Mikko interact with her baby, Daniel, and it is the sweetest foretaste.

mama and son hold hands near the pregnant belly
Mikko misunderstood Sam's direction to put his hand on the belly and thought he was supposed to hold my hand. I didn't mind.

At all.

All right, baby. We're (mostly sorta) ready. You can come whenever you are. We'll be waiting for you.

You are one brave pregnant momma! I would of never attempted any help in a reno during pregnancy let alone living with the mess of it. You have earned an extra 'halo' in my book! ~Faythe AGMT

If replacing floors, sanding dry-wall, and cleaning out a "crap room" (I have one of those too) doesn't qualify as nesting, I don't know what does! Could be a sign! The Mei Tai looks gorgeous, btw, and I'm jealous of your garden! Because I'm a wimpy Californian who can't garden in the rain (and the rain just keeps on coming and coming this year), my garden is pathetically behind schedule.

Wow, you all have been busy! The floor is lovely. I love the feeling of having all the homebirth supplies organized and ready!

We had a "crap room," too! We couldn't even walk in it. I eventually purged a van load of the crap from it and turned it into a "craft room" instead. It's still pretty junky but I can get to my sewing machine. The mei tai looks so pretty! You are really making me want to make one.
