Wordless Wednesday: Stay in, baby

Mikko has been alternately excited and ambivalent about the idea of welcoming a new baby into our household. I had just been reading some big-sibling books to him, and his succinct review of the charming book Silly Baby was "I don't like silly people." Here he drew a sign to underline the fact. "That say, 'No Silly Baby,'" he told me.

This next one was even more pointed, reflecting his distress over the thought of birth itself. "That one say, 'Baby, Don't Come Out.'"

Well, ok, then. Let's just hang them outside my uterus and hope the baby can read.

Honestly, at this point, we have so much renovating and organizing and cleaning to finish up, I'm with Mikko on this one. This baby can take its sweet time. You hear that, silly baby?

As you can see, though, ready or not — there's not much time left.

Mikko's drawings are beautiful.

Stay in, silly baby: Mama and Papa are getting ready for you!

You're looking great! I'm feeling the total opposite of you though! I am ready for my baby to come out! I'm getting so little sleep, I'm afraid I'll be too exhausted for labor if this goes on too much longer. Plus my doc is completely freaking out that I'm measuring 9 weeks big. I told him to just leave me alone and let my body do what it needs to do. But I still am anxious to get this baby on the outside, so I can lie down again without so much pain!

That's a belly to be proud of! :)

Great that Mikko gets to express his feelings this way.

What a beautiful picture of you. I have been treasuring your posts about Mikko's ambivalence. I love seeing how you've created a space where he feels safe expressing it. I'm sure that even as he hopes the silly baby will stay in, he will have a much easier time adjusting than if he felt any pressure from you about how much he should love and look forward to the baby.

Mikko rocks! It just has to be said. My daughter does that too... writes things and tells us what she's saying. They have such a need to communicate using our magical "writing'.
You do look ready. You also have mega glow going on. Get more pictures of this time, you'll love them later!

Aw, you are absolutely beautiful! I miss being pregnant so much. Can I just borrow your belly? lol I love that Mikko expresses himself through drawing. That's fabulous. And as for your silly baby? I hope he/she takes his/her sweet time. You don't know the sex of your baby yet do you? Or am I totally loser for having missed that revelation on your blog? lol

Awesome scribbles. You should definitely frame those and hang them somewhere :)

Also, you look wonderful! Can't wait for this kiddo to join the world!

My son had the same kind of feelings when his little sister was about to be born. It's great that you let your little guy express himself that way. :)

@Mama Whimsy: No kidding! I just tried to add you to the linky, and it took forever. Oh, well — I think you're up now. :)

Thanks for the shirt compliments, everyone! I actually won it in a giveaway. :) At first I thought, am I really the pink zebra stripe type? But then I figured, when better to wear something really flaunty? ;)

I've been loving Mikko's signs lately. He loves taping them up, too, which cracks me up. His recent obsession is making "No Dinosaurs Allowed" signs. And they've worked, too! We have had zero dinosaur infestations since he posted the signs.

peed my pants laughing. could be a combination of the hilarity of the comment and the lack of pelvic floor I currently have. You look as big as me!
